Center for Child and Family Policy Research Scientist Elizabeth Gifford developed a new website that can help people better understand the nature of substance abuse problems in every county in North Carolina and track trends over time. The Duke Human Rights Center is developing the Pauli Murray Project that will examine Durham’s complex racial history, with a goal to promote reconciliation and improve cross-community dialogue. The Center for Documentary Studies (CDS) developed a public art project, Face Up: Telling Stories of Community Life, which grew out of local conversations about neighborhood goals in Southwest Central Durham, NC. Linking the documentary arts with community development, Face Up connected individuals and organizations on the Duke campus and in diverse Durham neighborhoods through creative engagement, resulting in large, permanently installed murals featuring historic and contemporary people and stories. more >
